In addition, the University will be closed on Memorial Day (May 29th) and Labor Day (September 4th). These extra holidays will serve the dual purpose of recognizing days of great national significance and of a pilot program of conserving utilities with a four-day week. Since these are additional holidays over and above the 12 allotted by the State, staff and administration have the following options:
- Use eight hours of annual leave for Memorial and Labor Day.
- Work an additional eight hours during the remainder of the Memorial Day and Labor Day week, (four ten hour days).
- Take the day off without pay. Human Resources must be notified no later than the monthly maintenance deadline (May 17th and September 14th respectively).
- Since there will be no classes on these days, 10 month faculty will not be required to take leave or make up hours.
- Your supervisor must approve option two for Memorial Day and Labor Day.
- We have shifted holidays into the winter period (January) because of the recent high energy costs. Shifting these holidays will allow us to conserve fuel. If this shift causes any department a particular concern related to preparations for Spring Semester, please discuss the issue with your department head.
- The University administration recognizes the importance of the Memorial Day holiday; we encourage you to use this time to recognize the supreme sacrifice that has been made by members of the armed forces on our behalf.
Please do not hesitate to contact Human Resources
if you have questions.
