1. Start the Connection Process

Your first step is to click Start and then highlight Connect To.

2. View Available Connections

Once you have highlighted Connect To, click on Show all connections.
Clicking on Wireless Network Connection will only show details of your wireless connection after you have connected to the network.

3. Connection Options

In the new window that opens you will see all your connection options which will vary depending on what type of connection options you have installed on your laptop.
You will click on the Wireless Network Connection. You will note that when establishing your connection for the first time it will actually say not connected below the connection type.

4. Select the Wireless Internet Service Provider

After you have selected the Wireless Network Connection, a new window opens which will show all the available networks. When you checked into your hotel you should have received the name of the Wireless Internet service provider or perhaps when researching which hotel to use, you obtained that information.
In our example, i-Hotel is the Wireless Internet provider for a hotel.

As you may note in the diagram, there was another wireless network that the laptop detected.

5. Connect to the Wireless Internet Service Provider

Click on the name of the wireless service provider you wish to connect to in order to begin the process of connecting to that network. After the name is highlighted click on the Connect button on the lower right side of that window.

6. Wireless Network Connection Begins

Next you will see a new window open which shows that Windows is connecting the i-Hotel network (or appropriate network service provider) as the case may be.
This connection process should not take very long,. If it does seem to be taking more than two or three minutes, you may have to re-start the connection process.

7. Connection to Wireless Service Provider

The Wireless Network Connection window now shows that I am connected to the i-Hotel network.

Note:
When you are finished with using the Internet, you can go back to this window and use the Disconnect button in the lower right of the window to disconnect from the wireless service.

8. Confirming Wireless Network Connection

Once you have entered the correct authorization information, a new window opens on your desktop to confirm that you are connected and it indicates your signal strength.
Depending on where you are located in the hotel and where the access points have been setup, your signal strength may be low. In many cases changing your position even within your room can make an improvement in signal strength.

8. Connection Details

Our final step is checking the details of our connection. You may need this information in case you have to contact Customer Service and it never hurts to know the details of your connection.
Right click on the wireless connection icon in the lower right of your desktop and you can view the speed, strength and status of your wireless connection
.
Important Note:
When using free Internet access in a hotel, be sure to follow any guidelines they have set forth regarding the use. Most hotels have blocks in place to prevent spammers from using the free wireless access and from making large downloads or uploads.
