Senior Controller

Areas of responsibility included, monthly and year-end closings, preparation of forecasts, budgets, cash flows, financial analysis, training future Assistant Controllers and Controllers, contract administration and shared responsibility for capital and major FF&E expenditures. Served as an integral member of the executive management team establishing and implementing policies and procedures throughout the hotel. Departments supervised included accounting, credit, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, receiving, and MIS.  Responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with the owners of the hotel. As a Senior Controller, I was responsible for internal accounting review and executive assistance to four other Hyatt Hotels.

§         Member of Hyatt Hotels Standards Review Committee. The purpose of the committee is to review and update accounting polices and procedures.  As part of the committee, I helped author and write several accounting policy and procedural changes.

§         Accounting Management Operations Review, MOR Controller, reviewed other Hyatt hotels reconciliation’s and compliance with policies and procedures.

§         Trained one other Controller for the MOR program.

§         No outside auditor adjustments due to accounting problems.  Requested a write off adjustment due to notification from a bankrupt group, after the year-end audit was completed.

§         Reduced staffing by 20% after “9/11”, without any disruptions in accounting services.

§         Assisted owners in due diligence preparation for refinancing of hotel.

§         Pre-opening accounting for Hyatt Regency Chesapeake.

§         Enhanced cash flow report by linking it to month-end actual and forecast files   allowing for automatic updating, allowing for increased efficiency and additional improvements.

§         With the use of several software programs, developed more efficient and comprehensive reconciliation’s for a variety of accounts.  Created a report based  on 16 months of transient guest information to analyze the recent effect of Internet bookings on transient business. Developed a program designed to easily generate manual payroll checks saving man-hours of labor.

§         Due to my background and knowledge in accounting and computers, Hyatt hotels selected our hotel for beta testing of various program updates.

§         Accounting Management Operations Review, MOR Controller, reviewed other Hyatt hotels reconciliation’s and compliance with policies and procedures.

§         No outside auditor adjustments due to accounting problems. Requested two adjustments, after completion of audit due to write offs for two billing accounts.
