Letter from the Vice President of Business and Finance

Dear Business and Finance Staff:

In early August, I asked the directors to strategize on how this division could improve on delivering services to our clients, and to bring to me a plan for doing so. The directors have met this challenge and have present to me a plan that I have endorsed wholeheartedly. Therefore, on Monday, October 30th, I am announcing a new initiative undertaken by the directors to examine our core business processes and identify those that are candidates for redesign. The directors have been working on this since early August and are ready to implement the plan.

Why are we doing this? Let me give you 5 key reasons:

  • Recommitment to satisfying our customer's needs.
  • Preparation and planning for the future (PeopleSoft).
  • Achieve a better understanding of our policies and practices.
  • Better utilization of technology
  • To be proactive in meeting the objectives of the University Strategic Planning process that is currently underway.

This initiative will be implemented with a lot of teamwork, careful planning with measured results. This will be an on-going process. The number of core business process identified has been ranked and not all of them will be addressed initially but it is the goal of the directors to address as many as they can.

Finally, I want you to know that the intention of designing this program with your help ensures that we will bring in all the good ideas from an excellent staff, yourselves, that I know is committed to excellent work, in support of the university mission.

Therefore, I am asking each of you to attend one of 3 brief rollout sessions scheduled for Monday October 30th to hear more about this. The sessions are:

  • 8:30am at Melson Lobby
  • 9:15am at facilities
  • 10:00am at UCC 210

If you have any questions, please consult with your director. I look forward to seeing you at one of these sessions.

Bill Gauthier
